Bio:
My grandmother taught me how to crochet, knit and embroider as a child, and my mother taught all of her daughters how to sew. We made a lot of our own clothing including prom gowns.
I became interested in weaving and fiber after visiting arts festivals during the summers in Pittsburgh. I began working in a yarn store, took a tapestry class, bought a loom and spinning wheel and that was the beginning of a 45 year journey. I took a short hiatus from fabrics in the 90’s to explore basketry but came back to my loom and wheel with renewed excitement.
I work mainly with natural fibers, from the raw fleece to commercial yarns of wool, alpaca, silk, cotton and linen. I am currently trying my hand at dyeing.
I have also participated as both weaver and spinner in several sheep to shawl events including The PA Farm Show and Maryland Sheep and Wool.
I assisted 2 nd graders to weave communion banners and some of those students were so interested we began an after school program to weave lap blankets for the elderly.
I love demonstrating both spinning and weaving, answering questions and promoting the craft.
