Jackie Shoup – Beaded jewelry
My interest in the arts goes back to high school, where I divided my time between the art room and the gymnasium. Much to the chagrin of my art teacher, I decided to become a physical education teacher. I graduated from East Stroudsburg University and taught several years in the Allentown School District. It wasn’t until my youngest child was a toddler that I came back to the arts and took my first calligraphy class. I continued to study calligraphy for over 20 years. But I always wanted to paint! I envied the loose effect one could achieve with watercolor. I didn’t realize that structure is a very integral part of who I am. My watercolor paintings have ended up being as detailed and structured as my lettering!
And then I discovered seed beads! I am intrigued with the texture, colors and intricate detail that I find in bead designs. I love working with tiny glass beads, matching colors to natural gemstones and incorporating them into unique pieces of jewelry.
I feel very fortunate to have found so many ways to channel my creative energy.
