Whistlepig Studio, Kyle and Denée Savage
Whistle Pig Studios is the home of Denée and Kyle Savage, two old, pudgy, goofy kids whose glass blowing hobby careened wildly out of control many years ago. Our “hobby” now wanders at the intersection of serious and whimsical.
We started blowing glass in Florida at Jacksonville University in a program that offered a nice tax deduction. After an intensive 45 minutes of instruction, mostly on how not to get hurt, we were both hit with an ugly stick and instructed to “go forth and art”. That’s when the real trouble started.
Over the time of our journey through the world of glass we have attended many intensive work shops to improve our knowledge and skills. Despite many “spirited debates” involving lots hand waving and other, more whole body, “gesticulation” we, as a happy couple, continue to produce works of craft and “art” (whatever that is) in New Tripoli PA.
We do a little blacksmithing because our glass sculptures and yard art have to sit on something and hey, why not. Denée also engages in a lot of textile work because she needs something to do while I’m driving the car on long trips.
We have learned a thing or two along the way. You may find something you like or appreciate at our wonderful studio on Flint Hill Rd. If you’ve got something novel you want made we also like making other peoples visions come to life in glass.
